BOYZONE’S KEITH DUFFY ENCOURAGES PARENTS TO TALK ABOUT BEDWETTING FOR BLADDER & BOWEL UK

Adolescent bedwetting is extremely common, but something that many parents don’t talk about enough. With factors such as a lack of enjoyment at school, bullying, schoolwork and other anxieties being a trigger for bed wetting, Bladder & Bowel UK wanted to raise more awareness and encourage parents to have open conversations around the issue. 

Bladder & Bowel UK offers information and support to adults, children and young people facing bladder and bowel issues. To aid their research, which found that ‘one in five parents are uncomfortable talking to their child about bedwetting’, they required our help at The Celebrity Sauce Co. to find them celebrity spokesperson. 

The subject matter was sensitive yet important, so we knew the celebrity we chose had to be someone the public could trust, as well as ideally being a parent themselves. After lots of consideration, we teamed Bladder & Bowel UK up with Boyzone’s Keith Duffy.

Part of one of the most successful boybands of the 90s and noughties, he ticked the box for being recognisable. With two children the box was ticked for being a parent. But the additional fact that he himself experienced bed wetting until the age of 10 made him the credible choice parents could relate to.

For his partnership with Bladder & Bowel UK, Keith took part in a series of broadcast interviews with radio stations across the UK. They provided Keith with the opportunity to speak one-to-one with presenters about Bladder & Bowel UK’s research and the importance of having conversations with children. 

Through his own experiences and complemented by Davina Richardson, children’s specialist nurse for Bladder & Bowel UK, Keith professionally executed interviews with the likes of Steph’s Packed Lunch, Channel 5 News and ITV News.

We were thrilled to think that our expertise in securing not just any celebrity name, but the RIGHT one for the brand, meant parents everywhere might feel that little bit more confident in talking to their children about this sensitive topic in the future.
