Denise van Outen goes back to school with Talking Futures

We once again worked with Talking Futures to source them a celebrity partnership with Denise Van Outen who worked on supporting teens and parents in their latest, and important campaign.

For teens, knowing what direction to take with future education and careers can be tricky, especially when there’s a minefield of options out there. That’s where Talking Futures comes in. The ongoing national campaign and online resource encourages parents to talk to their kids’ (11-18 year olds specifically) about their options and next steps.

Always looking for new and exciting ways to engage parents and teens, the campaign regularly launches initiatives with a little help from the backing of celebrities. Their most recent endeavor was a short online film called ‘Tethered’ – the idea for which came after they found that ‘over half (58%) of parents admit that they don’t fully understand the range of qualifications now available to their child.

Having worked with Talking Futures on several occasions we had a clear idea of what celebrity would tick all the boxes in terms of authenticity and reach. Actress, presenter and mum, Denise Van Outen proved the perfect match. Thanks to her countless presenting work, including on the Channel 4 show The Big Breakfast and Broadway acting acclaim as Roxy Hart in Chicago, Denise has become an instantly recognisable household name.

Denise’s daughter is 15-years-old which means conversations about her future are regular topics around the breakfast table, which made her work with Talking Futures ever-more relevant. As part of the ‘Tethered’ film, Denise went back to school in the 90s where using both past and present day, the outdated views on education options were highlighted along with the ways parents may be using their own experiences to influence their children’s future.

Aiming to show how education has changed, the film launched in October 2024 and was extremely well received. To coincide with the launch of the film, Denise took part in a broadcast day where she took on the role of celebrity spokesperson during a series of radio interviews, and drove parents to view the new film. For an added boost she shared ‘Tethered’ to her personal Instagram account, opening Talking Futures to her 739k engaged followers.
