ED BYRNE NAILS HOSTING DUTIES AT WICKES’ INSTALLATION AWARDS

Having a celebrity host one of your brand’s events not only adds an extra special touch but it leaves people talking about the event far beyond its end. This was the case for DIY retailer Wickes following their recent Installation Awards dinner. For their event we successfully secured Irish comedian and actor Ed Byrne as their host for the night.

Wickes have more than 230 stores around the UK and serve DIY, trade and kitchen/bathroom customers. 2022 marked their 50th year and their ongoing birthday celebrations included recognising their professional installers – the colleagues who install kitchens and bathrooms into customer homes.

Taking place at Twickenham Stadium, the awards dinner brought together 210 of the brand’s top performing installers and leadership teams where great success was celebrated over a series of award categories.

To give the installers a night they deserved, and one they would remember, Wickes sought our help in finding them a well-known celebrity to host the evening. With celebrity relationships than span a wide-range of industries, we were able to partner them with renowned comedian Ed Byrne.

Ed’s stand-up career has seen him sell out numerous runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, take on many successful national tours and record three DVDs. His television work is expansive with regular stints on Mock the Week, Have I Got News For You and The Graham Norton Show, as well as recently appearing on Richard Osman’s House of Games.

Hosting roles have included The Great Sports Relief Bake Off and co-hosting Dara and Ed’s Great Big Adventure with comedian and friend Dara Ó Briain.

As an internationally recognised comedian and an ability to send a room into eruptions of laughter with his observational comedy, Ed was no doubt a winning choice for Wickes’ event.

Over the course of the Installation Awards dinner Ed spent time on stage engaging with audiences, welcoming winners onto the stage and generally adding unparalleled entertainment to the night. All attendees left with smiles on their faces – and some with awards in their hands.

Truly a great example of how a celebrity can turn up the heat on brand events.
