Anyone who grew up watching Blue Peter will know Simon Thomas. The former children’s show presenter was part of the iconic show for six years before moving on to pursue his passion for sports presenting with the likes of Sky Sports and current hosting role on Soccer Saturdays. So, we were thrilled to take Simon back to his roots as part of a campaign called ‘Earn Your Badge’ with Talking Futures.
The national campaign was to raise awareness of an online resource that helps parents engage with 11-18 years olds about their future education and career options. It came after research found that ‘more than 1 in 2 parents of teenagers feel disconnected from their kids’ interests’
As part of the campaign, Simon re-joined forces with his former co-host Konnie Huq to film the Earn Your Badge content series which saw them take-on famous challenges from Blue Peter such as ‘Tracey Island’ while giving support and guidance on career paths.
As well as filming content for the series, they also spoke to a number of press during a broadcast day. Here, they explained their reasoning for partnering with the campaign, including the fact they are both parents themselves and deem education an important thing to speak to young people about.
